Program Overview

The Pharmacy Technology Program curriculum is designed to prepare students for a career as a Certified Pharmacy Technician, a health care professional who works directly under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist in providing health care and medications to patients in institutional (hospital) and retail settings. The responsibilities of a Certified Pharmacy Technician include the ability to order, stock, package, prepare medications, operate computerized dispensing systems, prepare insurance claim forms, and maintain written or computerized patient medication records.

The program is recognized by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) as an educational/training program. We have a comprehensive program, which provides hands on training for patient care within their regulated scope of practice. The program prepares professionals for intensive training and exposure to all aspects of the pharmacy technician role. Pharmacy technicians assist in the preparation and dispensing of medications. A combination of lecture, on-campus laboratory and clinical training prepares graduates for a variety of employment opportunities in community and hospital pharmacies. The curriculum is designed to provide the educational information and competencies required by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT).
